Seward, Alaska on the Long Ride North

Just when you think the scenery can’t get any better, it does. We had a beautiful ride from Wasilla to Seward yesterday. We even managed to take the rain gear off and enjoy some sun shine. The weather outlook called for a chance of rain so we opted for a hotel room and managed to score one right on the marina with an incredible view.

We’ve been successful so far with not booking any reservations but this was a close one. We tried several places and everything was booked. The Holiday Inn Express had one room left which suited us perfectly. By splitting a room it gets the rate more manageable. Things are expensive here in Alaska but better than they were in Canada. In fact it’s a welcome to find gas at just over $4.00 a gallon instead of approaching $7.00 as it was in the Yukon.

Being right on the ocean like this we had to go for a halibut dinner. The Showcase Lounge Bar and Grill was perfect. A real, classic local’s kind of place. The halibut was fantastic. Ironically the weather cleared off and all threat of rain vanished. It was an absolutely beautiful even so we took a slow walk back to the hotel along the water’s edge. A very fitting end to the evening. Seward, Alaska. Hard to believe we are here.

Today we will ride over to Homer. Plans are to camp on the spit. Looking forward to that. ‘Til then…Mike out.

  3. Sounds great Mike. When I left Anchorage in 1951 they were just beginning construction of the Seward Highway so that we could drive from Anchorage to Seward. Had to go, so I never got to see Seward.
