I used to live up at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming near the little town of Dayton. I went back to visit one winter and captured a photo of this lone horse out there nibbling on a little of the dried grass poking up through the snow in a place or two. It looked like pretty slim pickin’s to me. I later did this watercolor in the comfort of my studio.
This 14 x 21 watercolor was painted with professional grade Winsor Newton paints on Arches paper. It is framed in a hand gilded 12kt gold frame that I did using a linen mat with a gilded fillet and glazed with Museum glass. I do all of my own gilding and framing.
