Soggy Rainy Day on the Long Ride North

It was a beautiful ride yesterday although a bit soggy out on the trail of the Long Ride North. We were in and out of rain for most of the day. Fortunatley it was mostly light showers. No torrential  down pours fortunately. Looks like today will be more of the same for most of the way.

We  left Perry Utah yesterday morning, jumping on interstate I-15 and headed into Idaho. We stopped in Blackfoot, Idaho for lunch on the banks of a pretty little lake. I chatted it up with a lady for a bit telling her I had a saddle made by a guy in Blackfoot some  40 years ago. She mentioned the name Bob Shields and I lit up. “That’s him!” I exclaimed. She said he was still alive but his sons had taken over the saddle making. What a memory that was.

We crossed from Idaho into Montana via Monida Pass. What a beautiful part of the country that is. Just into Montana is the little ghost town of Monida. Some years ago I did a little watercolor of Monida. I still have it hanging in the gallery. Stop by if you want and take a look.

We were in and out of rain most of the day. Deciding that setting up a tent in the rain wasn’t going to happen, we got a KOA Kamping Kabin in Butte, MT for the night. It was comfortable and not much more than what they want for a tent space. This morning finds us standing under the roof of the deck with coffee in hand looking out t a drizzly, rainy morning. Occasionally there are big white flakes falling mixed with the rain. We are debating the pros and cons of when to leave. Doesn’t really matter as  it looks like we will get wet. Here are a couple of pics, one from last night and one from the deck this AM.
