Reflections from the Road on the Long Ride North

I’m sitting around the campfire this morning thinking about our ride so far and thought I’d share a few of my thoughts on this Long Ride North.

First off is that it’s a long way to Alaska. I think we still have 3 more days before we cross the border.

Second is that the farther north we go it becomes very apparent that this is no country for the timid or faint of heart. Even the women look like they can handle it.

Everything is big around here. Texas has no claim on that. The land, the skies, the trucks, the men.

Makes one feel rather insignificant when you realize you are no longer at the top of the food chain. We asked the waitress at the restaurant at our campground if bears were a concern. She rather casually said that they were in the area but if we don’t leave any food out they won’t be a problem.

We also asked her what Canadians think of President Obama. She asked us what we thought of their Prime Minister. I confessed that I didn’t even know who the Prime Minister was. She smiled and shrugged. Enough said.

Onward we go. Very much enjoying the trip.

  1. Ah it is the journey not the destination, or so I’ve heard. Sounds like a great ride, wish we were there. Got the bike out of the shop yesterday. Rosemary says you need to find 6th gear to keep up with the Canadians! We know that bike will go that fast. 🙂

No kidding on the 6th gear. These Canadians don’t pay any attention to the speed limit signs. Apparently they are only suggested speed limits but if you feel the need go ahead and go faster.

Yes a great ride and we wish you were here too.
