Down San Antonio Way

Headed to San Antonio, Texas for a couple of days. Riding the Harley of course. I just couldn’t take it anymore. I had to get out of town and warm up a bit. I picked San Antonio for a handful of reasons, the primary one being that it’s warm down there and I could use some warm right now. I know there are lots of places in the southern climes that are warm but the second reason I picked San Antonio is because son Glenn moved down there last summer from Sheridan, Wyoming. He works for Marathon oil and it was a company transfer. I decided that as long as I’m going, I might as well take my paints along, since that’s what I do, and because according to fellow artist Mark Pettit who originally hails from Austin the Blue Bonnets are in their prime right now. He was in the shop the other day and was kind enough to point out a couple of good places on the map, in the “Texas hill country”, that should be ideal for Blue Bonnet painting right about now. I’ve also been told that the river walk in San Antonio is a must see. Should be lots of blossoms out now. I guess the river walk is pretty famous for the restaurants, bars and shops along that waterway. I also understand the Alamo is nearby. I’ll check it out and report back to you. In fact, I’ll do better than that. If you’d like, you can go to my website blogarchive.mikesimpsonart.com where I will be posting daily updates, some photos and maybe a video or two. Looking at the map for several days now trying to figure out the best way to get to San Antonio, I am impressed by how big Texas is. I mean I’ve always known it encompassed a lot of real estate and any Texan will proudly tell you how big it is but when you start adding up the miles and figuring how long it will take to get there it becomes real apparent real quick. I have to give daughter Mandy a big thanks for helping make this possible. If you’ve been following along and keeping up you know that Mandy has come aboard helping out at the shop and taking on the task of being an artist’s assistant, primarily mine. Sure glad she’s here. She’ll be keeping the doors open to assist you folks with your framing and art needs while I’m gone gallivanting around the countryside so be sure to stop by and give her a welcoming hello.
