I took a walk on the “river walk” in our town the other day. It’s actually a concrete path that follows along the Uncompahgre River as it meanders along.I was amazed at how many people were utilizing this trail. I probably encountered a dozen or so folks, young and old, coming and going. Some were on bikes, some walking the dog, some were jogging and others like me were walking.
What struck me the most, however, was how pretty it was along there. Views of the snow capped San Juan’s to the south, gun barrel blue of the river waters, burnt sienna and ochre brush and the wonderful grey of winter cottonwoods. Gosh. It was great.
I can see where I’m going to have to go back with my painting kit and take advantage of this. In the mean time I did this 12 x 16 studio oil so I wouldn’t loose sight of the idea.
This oil painting was painted with professional Winsor Newton oil paints on a Belgian linen panel. Mike is a signature member of the Plein Air Artists of Colorado, a signature member of the Western Colorado Watercolor Society, a member of the National Watercolor Society and a member of the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico. I do all of my own framing to include hand gilded frames such as the one on this oil. It is a warm silver metal leaf closed corner frame with a bit of an antique rubbing on it revealing some of the under color.
