The golden color of the aspen trees in Colorado in the fall months, beginning in September are a feast for the eyes. This scene is in what is locally called Willow Swamp in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado with Mt. Sneffels in the background.. The fence seen here is called a “worm” fence because of the way it “wiggles” along. It is constructed in this manner because it is self supporting and does not need any posts set in the ground to hold it up. Once weathered they have a beautiful character to them that is fun to paint.
This is a 30 x 40 original oil painting of Colorado Aspens in September, done by Mike Simpson on a stretched canvas with professional grade Winsor and Newton oil paints.
