The Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park

Little Gem Watercolors

I was going through some things and came across this pile of little gem watercolors. I don’t know if I had been saving them for something or what but apparently I had just completely forgot about them. These are some favorites. Maybe that’s why they were buried under some other things.  They have now seen the light of day once again and I present them to you here. Each is available. If you are interested please let me know. I can ship one to you if needed.

These first three were from a plein air painting trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks a couple of years ago.

This next piece was done one time I was over in Kodachrome Basin in Utah. I’ve always felt this was a nice watercolor

Watercolors are my first love. Painting in watercolor plein air is a rewarding quick medium I use it to capture the essence of a scene rather quicly. Clean up is a snap. There is no solvent to worry about. I often will dip my water container into a nearby stream, pond or lake if available. My watercolor kits are smaller than my oil kits so when space is an issue, watercolor is my go to choice. I even carry a small kit in my man purse.

I paint a lot and so I have many of these little gem watercolors, mostly all done on location somewhere.

Enjoy

  1. Mike ~Essence and ambiance were in place in my appreciation of art and places of interest I’ve acquainted myself to in my years, but it wasn’t until an overclouded sky weekend, where we camped out in a nearby mountain canyon in our part of the Rockies, a few years back that I learned I really did have an appreciation for watercolor art, when I attended an art show of such…actually bought a “small gem” because it reminded me of that special weekend with family and friends despite the sometimes drizzle of raindrops.
Thanks so much for sharing your “gems”.
