Happy Thanksgiving to All

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I’m not sure what the politically correct version of that is but I’m pretty sure you ought to know by now that I wouldn’t use it anyway. I think that Thanksgiving is by all accounts steeped in family get togethers and over indulging in the feast that those responsible worked so hard to prepare for our eating pleasure. Turkey is the traditional meat for us meat eaters. Of course there would be cranberry sauce of some kind along with mashed potatoes and gravy. I won’t go into all the menu details. You no doubt have your own version of this meal. Suffice it to say that if you are lucky, there will be several days worth of left overs if the meal was prepared in your house. The downside to going to someone else’s home is that you probably won’t get to savor those left over turkey sandwiches. Too bad.

Of course the real reason for Thanksgiving for some folks, as side from the great feast, football and relatives, is that we are supposed to be thankful for the good fortune that found us over the past year. Or if your fortunes weren’t so good then maybe the idea would be to be thankful for the lessons learned, assuming we learned the lesson. Sometimes that’s hard to do.

Others are going to be thankful for the bountiful harvest they may have had. I imagine the original thanks givers were just thankful they were still alive. Don’t know for sure as I wasn’t there and it was before my time but I’d bet in that direction. Landing on this foreign land back in the day and striking out like that had to be difficult and not for the timid.

As are many, we will be traveling over this holiday. They say this will be the busiest travel season in several years, primarily because of the cheap gas and everybody is doing a little better. The price of gas is definitely a factor but I’m not sure how much better folks are doing financially. That’s a tough call. Some are but there are lots who aren’t still.

I can’t speak for you but it’s not hard for me to look around and be thankful for a lot of stuff. I tend to have a Polly Anna outlook on things anyway so it’s easy for my list to get out of hand. I’m not going to bore you with what’s on that list but I will give you good folks a big THANK YOU for sharing your hard earned dollars with me when you buy one of my paintings, get something framed or follow along on my adventures. I appreciate it.
