Plein Air Artists of Colorado

The Plein Air Artists of Colorado, of which I am a signature member, held it’s 19th members show in Boulder, Colorado at the Mary Williams Fine Art Gallery. The artist’s reception and opening of the show to the public was Thursday evening. Kathy and I drove over to attend. I’ve been a member of the Plein Air Artists of Colorado for a number of years but I had never attended the annual members show. It was great to be there and meet some of the people I only knew by name but lacked a facial reference.

Boulder, Colorado is a really strange place but that’s a topic for another post.

I had done a painting and the Dennis Weaver Memorial Park last September at the invitation of Rick Weaver, Dennis’s son, who sponsors an annual paint-out for which the Dennis Weaver Foundation selects a painting to purchase. I wasn’t lucky enough then to be selected but lucky enough to get the paint juried in the the PAAC show.

A fine september Day

There was a great turn-out but as with most receptions, it was way too crowded to really see the art.

PAAC Show

I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Williams. She has a nice gallery. I hope to go back and take another look when it’s not so crowded.

On the way over to Boulder we stopped in Salida and had lunch at the Laughing Ladies, an eclectic little eatery just down the street from the Joshua Been Studio and Gallery. I had been looking for an opportunity to get acquainted with Joshua for some time. He’s considerably younger than I am but we are doing a similar thing in that he has his studio in his gallery and has a frame shop. The only big difference is that his frame shop is located off premises and he has people hired to help him. Nice guy and I look froward to seeing him again.

I’m looking forward to getting back into the studio. It’s been over 5 weeks since I’ve been there and I have a list of paintings waiting to be done. See you there. I’ll keep you posted.

  1. Yeah, Janie and I were in Boulder for the first time several weeks ago. You’re right…it’s another world for sure!
    See you this Wednesday.
