The Coyote Inn – Under New Ownership

Staying at the Coyote Inn in Limon, Colorado isn’t what we had in mind for tonight but it’ll be fine. After all it is under new ownership. So far it ranks right down there with the room I got at Baker, California one night at the Wills Fargo Motel. If you’ve ever been to Baker you’ll recognize the name. The other next best room was at the Sand and Flea Motel in Saratoga, Wyoming. I don’t think it was under new ownership though. Probably should’ve been but wasn’t.

Originally we had planned on camping at the KOA tonight. In fact we even went so far as to get our tent set up and pads and sleeping bags stashed inside before we went to supper. We enjoyed a pretty nice meal at Oscar’s Bar and Grill where we have eaten before when we passed through Limon It is always good and the service is very good. Nothing fancy, just clean and good. We were well aware of a severe weather alert for the area and sure enough as we ate we enjoyed the lightening show and rain storm as it passed by. The waitress said it shouldn’t last long and she was right by the time we had finished supper it was down it just a fine drizzle. I had a piece of carrot cake and another cup of decaf while we waited for it to let up enough to get back to the camp ground. The wind had blown and and it really poured for awhile there.

Much to our dismay back at the camp ground we pulled up to a muddy mess and a collapsed tent. WHAT? I kind of thought this tent was pretty bullet proof but I was sure wrong on this call. As we were trying to dismantle the wreckage, the neighbor and his son came over and offered to help set it back up. He said that it was a real weird sort of micro-burst that blew in. He said it was over in a matter of seconds but it sure made a mess out of our camp. Even broke one of the oles and these are 5/8s fiberglass sectioned poles. Anyway, everything inside was soaked so we just wadded the mess up and stuffed in our trailer and went looking for the first room we could find and here we are at the Coyote Inn, Under New Ownership. Any port in a storm as they say.
