30th Annual Gilder’s Conclave

A short video of the 30th Annual Gilder’s Conclave held in Bakersfield, CA. A group of gilders who are carrying on this craft of gilding in reverse on glass. The first Conclave was held by Rick Glawson in his studio/shop in Willmington, CA. The Conclave is held in honor o Rick and in the tradition of the masters of the craft sharing their knowledge with invited newcomers. I’m learning so much and it is almost overwhelming being n the midst of so much talent. Very inspiring for sure. Have met some really nice and open individuals and have enjoyed seeing some old friends again. Very honored and proud to be included with this group. Thanks.

  1. I’ve been trying hard to find information on gilding on glass(especially artists in Colorado) and your blog has been a find! Last year a friend asked me to try painting her shop’s windows and I really loved it. I even gilded a few details here and there – but did not use traditional methods at all… I’ve watched a few Youtube videos that have been helpful, but I’m wondering if you have any wise words or Denver-area contacts that I could learn from. The next project is gold lettering with no borders along with some scrollwork which I can do by hand. I’m considering transferring my lettering onto a vinyl pattern so the the application of the leaf is a tiny easier, but I have no idea if that’s a horrible idea! Any help would be appreciated.

      Hi Meredith,
Where are you located? I can think of Dan Seese in Ft. Collins I believe. There is also a great forum where the big guns and newbies hang out from time to time. http://www.handletteringforum.com. They have lots of great info there. I’d suggest review as many posts as you can then don’t be afraid of jumping in with questions. If you are over on the Western Slope I’d be happy to have you stop by and I can show you what I know about it.
