Plein Air Convention in Tucson, Arizona

The Plein Air Convention in Tucson, Arizona is coming up next week. I mention this because I’ll be there. This will be the 4th Plein air Convention. The previous 3 were in Monterey, CA. I advertise in the Plein Air Magazine so I thought I should go to the convention to see what it is all about.

New development for me include a complete redo of blogarchive.mikesimpsonart.com. My guy Tim Brown has done a great job with this and I’m really proud of it. Take a look around and let me know what you think. He also put together a little video clip that I think is pretty cool. You can see it here. I’d also like your feedback on this. You can see it here.

Let’s see. What else is new? Oh! I have a new facebook page. Go here to see what it is and if you are so inclined, I’d appreciate it if you were to like and follow. It’s here I’ll post specific material related to my art career, like the email I received that I have been selected to participate in the Zion National Park Invitational Plein Air painting event in November. I’ll post more information as it becomes available.

A couple of years ago when I rode my motorcycle to Alaska, we skirted the edge of the Kluane National Park in the Yukon Territory. Recently I became aware of artist Cory Trepanier who spent a month in the Kluane painting. He hiked, canoed, camped, flew by plane and packed by horse back capturing this vast and impressive land. Here is a short video clip.

This really inspired me. As much as would like to go back to the Yukon and do something like that, it’s out of the question for now, but I have something I can do right here in Colorado.  This summer I’m going to stat a new series of paintings that will feature the wild high country of the Colorado San Juan Mountains which I can see from my house.

Here are a couple of photos I took the other day to show you what I am talking about.

Here is a short video clip close up I took the other day. Can’t wait for the jeep trails to open up.
